The other night I dreamt of bacteria. I gazed upon a television screen from which a very calm voice relayed scientific facts of bacteria growth. The images being displayed were animated, cartoony. It zoomed in on a human tongue; closer, closer, revealing the multitudinous sea of bacteria living, swimming, festering in one’s mouth. The format of the video was reminiscent of the videos that had replayed over and over again in the waiting room of my childhood dentist’s office. Awesome.
I recall that earlier in the day I had examined my tongue in the mirror, post sushi. I also recall how repulsed I had been! My brush with biology was coming back to haunt me in the form of bacillus.
